In conjunction with the Edward Hopper exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris, the Réunion des musées nationaux – Grand Palais has produced a new digital book, designed and optimized entirely for the iPad.
Didier Ottinger, curator of the Edward Hopper exhibition and assistant director of the Center Georges Pompidou, presents an engrossing new look at the painter’s life, based on nine of his works.
Each painting corresponds to a topic and introduces the artistic and literary figures that influenced Hopper, as well as the artists influenced by his work. These successive cross-referencings present the reader with a comparative look of Hopper’s paintings with texts by seminal authors (Hemingway, Thoreau, Verhaeren, Freud, Emerson, etc.) and with excerpts from famous films (Psycho, On Tour, etc).
And through animated sequences and a narrator summarizing the contents of each topic, readers are provided with key information for a full immersion into the work of this emblematic painter.
